Hiking from Teton Village in Spring
The spring’s first foray along the Valley Trail towards Granite Canyon does require a good sense of direction and some prior experience, as the trail often disappears under un-melted patches of snow just a couple hundred feet off the valley floor.
Still vast snow fields obscure the trail completely when approaching Granite Creek. Bushwhacking along the ridge lines along game trails ended up being the most efficient strategy for making any progress.
The extra effort was worth it, as the wildlife was out and about, including noisy birds, playful marmots, a sly fox, a swooping owl and a small group of skittish elk.
